Structural Welding Course
Morning, Afternoon, and Evening Classes Available
Objective:
Training an individual to become proficient in many areas of structural welding. The course is designed so students will be able to work in many different areas of welding such as building and stadium construction, Shop manufacturing, marine welding and structural field welding.
Course Outline:
Upon completion of the Structural Welder Course, a student shall be able to enter the welding field as a journeyman level structural welder and shall be able to find employment in or at manufacturing shops, shipyards, tank farms, drilling rigs and structural construction such as stadiums, buildings and towers. This course is competency based, students’ progress at their own individual pace and will be tested after each task completion per AMSE code standards, students must complete 250 hours and maintain passing grades in this course to receive a diploma and be tested for welder performance qualification certification. If a student does not complete the 250 hours or maintain passing grades they will receive neither diploma nor certification.
Welding Processes
SMAW (stick)
GMAW (mig)
FCAW (flux-core)
Course Subjects:
Intro to Welding
Designed to instruct students on welding safety and techniques, oxy-fuel cutting torch operations, equipment set-up and structural welding processes, weld inspection techniques and metal preparation.
Structural Welding I
Designed for students to learn the basic operation and skills for shielded metal arc welding SMAW on flat plates in various positions and Tee plates in 1f,2f,3f,4f positions vertical up using 6010 and 7018 electrodes. Students will learn the proper set-up and operation for SMAW welding equipment.
Structural Welding II
Designed to instruct students in shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) processes involving open root bevel plate using 6010 and 7018 electrodes in the 1g, 2g, 3g and 4g positions vertical up. Students will be instructed on how to bevel and prepare metal for v-grove bevel welding, cleaning, weld quality and testing procedures for structural codes.
Mig & Flu-Core Structural Welding
Instruct students on the proper techniques and skills for GMAW and FCAW on flat, tee and bevel plates in all positions. Instruct students on proper metal preparation and joint fit-up for GMAW and FCAW operations, quality of welds and blueprint reading for structural.
Employment Training
Designed to inform students on employment finding techniques such as how to find job opportunities, steps in obtaining and taking weld tests for companies, job attitude and preparing resumes.
